At Arcos Hermanos, we are adopting eco-friendly measures to reduce plastic in our packaging. We have replaced plastic sleeves with recyclable cardboard for all table cutlery, and we have reduced waste by using master cartons. In addition, we are working to replace plastic packaging with heat-sealed cardboard, simplifying recycling.

We provide educational programs and specialized training to our customers on the proper care and maintenance of their knives. We also offer sharpening services to help extend the useful life of their kitchen tools. This directly reduces waste and lowers the frequency with which new knives need to be purchased. In addition, we offer spare parts, minimizing the need to discard products and contributing to a more efficient use of natural resources.

We care about conserving natural resources. That’s why we incorporate FSC-certified wood into several of our products, contributing to responsible forest management and biodiversity protection. In our processes we minimize waste by efficiently recycling leftover materials such as steel and plastic. We have also established a closed-loop internal water circuit that reduces both water consumption and our energy footprint. In parallel, we are exploring greener industry alternatives through a research program on recycled plastics.

To achieve a significant reduction in our carbon footprint, we start with a precise calculation of our emissions. This detailed process not only helps us understand the magnitude of our environmental impact, but also identify the specific areas that require improvement. The carbon footprint calculation has been carried out considering Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions, which allowed us to obtain the 2023 “Calculo” seal.

As part of our sustainable mobility actions, we are expanding our facilities with more bicycle parking spaces, and we plan to renew our vehicle fleet with hybrid or electric models in 2024. We work with 100% renewable energy sources and are committed to generating 10% of our energy through solar panels, harnessing clean, natural resources. Our commitment to sustainability also extends to waste management, with a robust recycling plan in our facilities. To cut energy consumption, we have replaced traditional lighting with high-efficiency LED technology and updated our cooling systems to reduce power use. We also rigorously monitor and control real-time water, gas and electricity consumption to take proactive measures and minimize our environmental impact. As a result of these initiatives, we obtained the “Reduzco” seal, with a 6.48% reduction in the average emissions intensity in 2021–2023 compared to 2020–2022, for Scope 1+2.

We strive to implement sustainable measures that care for the environment and offset our carbon footprint. On March 4, 2023, we carried out a tree-planting initiative on one hectare in Madrigueras, Albacete, to reduce our impact on climate change. This initiative was made possible thanks to the collaboration of company employees and their families, who actively participated in the planting. In 2024, we carried out a second one-hectare planting. We are committed not only to continuing these annual one-hectare plantings in different areas, but also to maintaining them properly to ensure their growth and effectiveness. Through these actions, we aim to contribute continuously to the fight against climate change and strengthen our environmental commitments. Thanks to these initiatives, we obtained the 2023 “Compenso” seal. Spain’s Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge has completed the review and registration of our offset project and granted us the Certificate of Registration in the section for carbon-absorption projects in the national registry of carbon footprint, offsetting and CO₂ absorption projects.
